"Wow, I can't wait!" Brooke replied. She turned her head and immediately located James Taylor and David Starfold conversing with each other. It actually looked like they were arguing, but she couldn't be totally sure, since it was dark, crowded and loud. 'Oh wow, they're signing new talent. I would be a total nerve ball if I had to perform,' she thought to herself
"Well, good luck," Brooke told him, "I hope you get signed."

Riley looked around the club.
Ferdinand and Kathleen.
Tyler. The love of his life was at the hospital.
Caleb Slater and Brooke Chein?
Nick and Rori.
James Taylor and David Starfold, two married men.
She suddenly felt extremely lonely. Was she the only one here that was single? If not, it surely felt like it. She felt like she should've just went with Gary. She couldn't just settle for a great guy because of Chris. Being this obcessed was stupid. Not only that, it was unhealthy. But she couldn't picture herself in a normal relationship. She only thought of him.
She looked up at Chris. Everything about him was so perfect. His voice. His face. His body. His style. His Piano Playing. She kept trying to tell herself:
'He'll never want me...'
But her heart wouldn't let her.

As Chris continued to rehearse, he noticed the bartender giving him a thumbs up, signaling him to start his songs. He suddenly got very nervous. His heartbeat got faster and faster as he took a deep breath and walked over to the microphone. Chris was sure that his heart would burst and blood will spill all over the stage. This was his moment to shine...or die.
"Hey guys! Thanks for comin'," Chris heard himself say into the microphone, "I'm Chris Taylor. Might have seen me in America's Next Top Singer or Message Board Idol. Wow, well sorta nervous right now, but I hope you all enjoy my stuff tonight. Umm, I'm gonna start off with a song. You can get it on iTunes and it's a cover of the well known Elton John, Something About the Way You Look Tonight, so enjoy!"
Chris walked over to the piano, adjusted the microphone that was one the piano and started.

Chris' eyes searched the crowd for Rori, but he could not find her. 'Oh well,' Chris thought to himself, 'I know she's there somewhere.'

James broke into applause for his brother from where he stood in the crowd and jotted down some quick notes in his notebook. 'Wow,' James thought to himself as he looked up at Chris, who looked quite nervous, yet pretty calm as well, 'He's really grown since the last time I heard him. Definitely want to sign him now,'
"Wow, great stuff, am I right or am I right, Starfold?" James said, "He'll be an amazing addition to my company."

After Chris's performance was over, the fairly quiet room exploded with applause. Riley was lost in his eyes. She saw David Starfold look impressed and seem to be very ineterested in the little club. Riley tried to not be too loud, but had trouble when she was so starstruck over him.
Nick didn't seem too impressed with him. Maybe he found out he'd been flirting with Rori? He seemed oddly protective over her tonight, which was really out of character for him. He had his arm wrapped around her and a look on his face that said "she's mine". Maybe he felt like he had to.
Even Riley realized how guys drooled over Rori. Riley was always in her shadow. From music to romance. It was really frustrating to her. Even though they were best friends, Riley was jealous of her.

The reaction of the crowd seemed to be overall positive, causing Chris to be a little bit more confident. He continued to search the crowds for Rori, yet he couldn't find her.
"Thanks. Well, this is an original by me. It's called "Lost (Without You)". I hope you guys enjoy it!"
Chris took another deep breath as he put his fingers in the proper place on the piano. Then, he began.

Chris continued the song, playing the piano and singing with as much emotion as he could. While he did this, he searched the audience for Rori. As he looked, he spotted many familiar faces; his brother James, who he was excited to see, Brooke Chien and Kathleen Pace. But no Rori.

It looked like Caleb had a tough act to follow. The audience went wild over his performances. It didn't matter.
Caleb WOULD get a record deal.
"Well, Brooke. It's been nice talking to you, but I best be getting backstage."

It was finally down to his last performance, his last chance to wow the audience and to impress Rori, wherever she may be.
"Well, so here's the last one. I'm gonna sing a song by Matthew West, You Are Everything, and I'm dedicating this song to a VERY special person."
Chris smirked as he placed his fingers down on the piano keys, took a deep breath and looked into the audience as he felt the first keys being pressed down and the first notes sounding through the room.

The band behind him began to play and the lights on the stage brightened up. With that, Chris detached the microphone and walked forward towards the audience.

As the crowd cheer, Chris felt a burst of happiness. The song was one of his favorites, and he was so glad to have been able to sing it for everyone, especially for the girl he knew he loved with all his heart.
While in the moment, his eyes met Rori's, who was sitting in the audience. However, Rori was in the arms of another guy, Nick he recognized from ANTS. Suddenly the happiness and joy of the moment was overshadowed by his immediate realization that Rori could never be his. He walked off the stage, sadden by this realization, across the room and out of the door. He was going home.

In nearly an instant, the cheers and applause turned to sounds of confusion and mumbled speech.
["What was that all about?"] she heard Nick say.
["He saw me and then ran out of the room..."] Rori replied
So it was Rori that Chris loved... of course. It was ALWAYS Rori.
'After all, it couldn't have been me... I'm just a little kid to him...' she thought.
Fighting back tears, and not thinking about what she was doing, Riley followed Chris out the door. God only knows why she did this.
When outside, she yelled
"Chris, wait!"

Caleb stepped out on stage to do a little soundcheck before he performed. What was all the commotion about? He shrugged it off and began to warm up on his chords on the back of the stage.

Chris hurried along the sidewalk towards the subway station, his steps filled with emotion and heartbreak. He could not believe he had been chasing a girl that had already been taken. He felt so stupid. He was pretty sure that his flirting had been quite apparent and obvious, and now he was so embarrassed. Chris couldn't think anymore. He just wanted to go.
And then he realized that since it was his first day in the city, he had no where to go.
"Crap..." Chris mumbled to himself as he slumped against a nearby building wall and sat on the concrete below him. He had no where to go and no money to get a hotel room. Maybe he could stay with James, but no. He didn't want to go bother with James. He was on his own now. No longer was he the baby brother that James had always called him. Chris was a man, a man that needed to support himself. He just couldn't go up to James and ask to stay with him. James had his own life....and now Chris did as well.
"Chris, wait!"
Chris looked up to see a girl running down the street towards him. At first he thought it was Rori, but as the figure drew closer he realized it was Riley, Rori's cousin.
"Riley...what are you doing here?" Chris replied to her as she approached him, "Don't bother with me. Go back to the bar."

Riley ignored his order to go back to the bar.
"You love Rori don't you?" she said, controlling herself from bawling in the process.
"Running out onto the streets isn't going to solve anything." she said. She was trying to sound mature so he wouldn't think she was a kid.
Even here, in the dim glow of the streetlights, Chris was simply breathtaking. Riley did her best to not get lost in his eyes again.

"You don't understand," Chris told her as he gazed into the darkness that seemed to consume the two of them, "I've been in love with your cousin ever since we met on ANTS. One glance and I knew she was the girl for me. I've been lingering on all this time, trying to figure out how to tell her. Maybe I just waited too long...."
Chris sighed as he looked down and played with a twig in his hands that he had found laying on the ground.
"Ugg, I'm an idiot...."

Hearing Chris talk about Rori was painful to Riley. Everything Riley wanted, Rori got. She couldn't stop a couple of tears from running down her face.
"I do understand. More than you know. Because of you, I can't have a relationship. Everytime I try to, my heart always goes back to you. I have dreamed of this day for 2 years. The day I meet the guy of my dreams. And he is in love with my cousin, my best friend... sniff... You don't think that hurts?" she said
She couldn't believe what she was saying. She had professed her love for someone she'd known for less than 24 hours. But more than that, she professed her love for Chris Taylor.

Chris' thoughts of Rori were suddenly interrupted by the words of Riley's. His attention turned away from the twig in his hands as he turned his head from his fingers. His attention switched to Riley's face as he stared up at her eyes. Did she just say what he thought she did?
"Riley...wow," Chris replied, "I didn't think..."
He had no clue that Riley had thought of him like that. It was a complete surprise to him, and it made him very uncomfortable as well. The truth was he could not love Riley. Chris still saw her as a little girl who he could have a nice conversation with, but not someone he could have a heartfelt relationship with.
"Riley, you're a great girl and all, but..." Chris started. He paused for a moment. "I'm just not sure it would work out between us, you know. I mean I'm sure you'll meet someone else a lot better than me...."
