Kaylee walked into the Coffee House with Brad. She wasn't allowed to go to Starbucks under her contract.
"You can get something to eat, they have lots of desserts and stuff..." she said.
"And can you get me a strawberry smoothie?" she added.
She sat down at a table. What was she doing? She was 14, and this guy was in his 20s... this was probably illegal. She didn't want to leave though, because she really thought this could somehow work out.

Brad walked into the Coffee House for the first time. He didn't know what to expect. He smelled the sweet aroma of coffee and suddenly, he was wide awake. His thoughts cleared up. What was he doing here? With someone almost a decade younger than him! But his thoughts got interrupted by Kaylee's voice.
"You can get something to eat, they have lots of desserts and stuff..." she said.
"And can you get me a strawberry smoothie?" she added.
"Uhh...yeah" he stammered "Wait for me here."
He walked away mystified. It was like they did this for years. Just for an instant, he pictured her as his little sister. He shook his head. He didn't want to have "that" kind of relationship with her. When he walked up to the counter, he saw a woman in her mid 20's wearing a brown V-neck shirt.
"Excuse me, but can I have a strawberry smoothie and a chunky chocolate cake?" he asked, looking at the menu.
Suddenly, the woman grabbed his hands and said, "Anything for you handsome."
He quickly pulled his hands back and replied, "Can I just get my food? I'm kind of in a rush."
As soon as he got his order, he speed walked back to the table, one hand holding the smoothie, the other holding the cake.
Somewhere in his head, he hoped Kaylee didn't see the incident just then.

"Thanks," she said.
Brad looked very uncomfortable. Maybe it just was an innocent lunch...
She felt like such a loser again. Of course it was. She was just a stupid kid.
"Why did you want me to come here with you?" she asked.

Brad did not see that coming! He didn't know how to respond.
"Umm...I felt that we could be friends" he answered.
He knew that was a lame answer, but what else could he say? She was at least 7 years younger than him. He couldn't tell her that he thought they could hit it off. That would just be too weird.

"You and I both know that is a lie," she said.
Kaylee was always direct. She knew that they felt something for each other. As wrong as this might be, she wanted it to happen.

He was speechless. How could she be so direct? And even more, how does she know what he feels? It was just all too much for him to handle.
"Excuse me, but I need to use the restroom" he said, quickly getting up.

"Coward..." she whispered.
He was being a coward. He was a liar and a coward. Why couldn't he just accept the fact that he felt for someone like her?

He heard her as he walked away. He wasn't a coward, he just didn't know how to react to a situation like that so suddenly. Whatever, he thought. That just shows her immaturity and does he really wants to be with a person like that?
*Went into the restroom*
When he got back, he found there was barely anything left of his cake.
"Did you eat some of my cake?" he asked.

"No..." she said.
She had no idea what he was talking about.
"Maybe you just like it more than you thought," she said, trying to make a parody of their life.

"Ok...." he said.
Honestly, he just said that to change the topic. He didn't want to have that whole conversation again.
"Look Kaylee, I have to go. I'm sorry, but I just got a phone call from my family. They want me back home. You see, I don't live here. I came here because I was depressed, and I didn't want my family to worry about me. But I'm all better now...thanks to you." he said.
He wanted to stand up right then and run out but something held him back down.

"Please don't go..." she said.
She wasn't usually one to wear her emotions on her sleeve, but something about this guy made her. She felt attached to him, like they were meant to be.
"I don't have any friends, and if you leave now, I won't have anyone," she said.

He was again shocked by her directness. Then a crazy idea came over him.
"Why don't you come back home with me..." he said.
How could he tell her something like that. She had a family of her own. And she was 17! She couldn't just move to another state.

"What?" she said.
"Why would I do that if we are 'just friends'?" she asked.
Kaylee was shocked. That would be weird even if they were a conventional couple. They just met.

"Well, I can't stay, and you can't go..." he said.
"...So I guess this is good bye" he finished.
He knew it wasn't going to work out the moment he asked her, but he had to give it a try. Now it was definite. And depression overcame him again.

A tear ran down Kaylee's face.
"I guess it is probably for the best..." she said.
So many things were going through Kaylee's head. She wouldn't do something this stupid just for a guy she liked. She thought she might be in love with this guy, though she just met him, and he was 10 years older than him.
"But I want you in my life," she said.
She realized that maybe it was better to try to push him away. It might hurt less.
"And this is so wrong... because I'm only 14," she said
