As night fell over the city, a single spotlight shone at a microphone that stood, centered on the stage of the club. The glistening light illuminated the surface of the object, giving it the sparkling appearance of majesty. Eventually, it would not be alone in that single spotlight. A voice would ring through it, turning the object into a precious piece of perfection.
Her nervous could not be hidden as she stood backstage, behind the scarlet curtains that served as the only wall between the comforts of the place she stood and the tension-filled area that she hoped would not cause her the lose it. James Taylor had requested her to sing at open mic night at the Open Mic Bar and Club in order to gain publicity for her album and serve as a catalyst for her currently dead music career.
Open Mic Night at this bar was no joke, no fun. It was either you had it or you didn't. If you did, you would be rewarded with applause, maybe a standing ovation here or there and people dancing happily to your music. If you sucked, you would barely be able to finish the song, and eventually, tomatoes and rotten fruit would be pelted at you, as if you were some target waiting to be bulls eyed.
Plus, Kathleen was using this opportunity for some romance between her and Ferd. They needed something more in their romantic life, and she had decided that this was the time to do it. She had invited him over to the bar that night for a special surprise, and she could not wait for him to arrive. Everything had to be perfect. A wrong move could hinder not only her music career and her contract with Taylor Production Studios, but also her love life with Ferd.

Kali rushed in backstage from the audience. She paused when she saw Kathleen.
"Hey, Kathleen Pace, were you at the mall a couple of days ago?" She was sure the french accent was fake.
Kali got a cell phone call asking her to perform soon. She rushed in as fast as she could.

Kathleen stood, waiting anxiously for the time she would stand out on the stage. She would give three performances, and she had to do them right. Whether or not she pulled them off felt like a life or death thing. She just needed to impress the audience enough so that the popularity of her album would rise. And most importantly, Ferd might have gotten there already and she needed to impress him. She was sure that he wasn't, though, cause she was sure that if he had gotten there by now, he'd be talking to her backstage. It was just the Ferdy thing to do. However, this did not weaken the pressure.
A girl she saw on her shopping spree while in her disguise showed up. She remembered that day, when she bought the hot pink go-go boots that she was wearing at that moment. She absolutely loved them, and the day at the mall was one of her most memorable shopping experiences. Not only did she get such fabulous footwear, but she also wore her most outrageous disguise.
"Ummm...." Kathleen replied, answering to the girl's question, "I don't think I know what you're talking about, to be honest. Sorry. Must have been someone else pretending to be french...."

"Oh, my bad." Kali replied embarrased. "So, I'm guessing you're performing?" She asked.

Sammy went into the club after a long day of shopping. She was glad she could relax for once. She never caught a break since being on ANTS. She wasn't upset though. She was happy to be on such a great show and such a great strategy to rocket careers it was. She just came in and was going to enjoy some good talent. She still kept thinking of the French girl. Man, was she weird! And man, Sammy loved that hair!

"Yeah, performing tonight," Kathleen told the girl, "Manager said I needed more publicity for my album, Stand Out. Just hoping I get more fans and all, you know what I mean?"
Anxiety was still filling Kathleen's every look, every glance and every breath. She couldn't help but think about what would happen if everything went wrong. This was weird for Kathleen. She was usually quite the optimistic person to go to when you needed a cheering up. But the music industry had given her pressure, that maybe she was for the first time growing up and becoming an adult. Never had she experienced such a strict situation. With it came it's stresses, but she had also become a lot more mature than she was. For example, that nude "sex" scene she'd had with Rori a few weeks earlier; never would happen again....she hoped.
"So...you performing tonight?" she asked the girl.

"What about you?"

"I'm going out in 20," Kathleen said, "Gosh, so nervous. I have to get some fanbase, or else my whole career will crash. You got a record deal yet, by the way?"
Kathleen was sure the girl had not gotten a record deal, but asked the quesiton anyway. She had, after all, seen the girl on the reality tv show, All American Singer, the show she hosted for during its first All American Giver show. From her experiences in reality tv show hosting, she knew that you could not be in a competition and have a record deal. But, she asked this question anyhow. After all, what more could she do?

After kali and Kathleen talked for a while, It was finally Kali's turn. "heh, gotta go!" Kali rushed on stage in her red halter dress and the heels she bought on her day at the mall. the lights were dark, then a spot light went on. Kali looked around at the crowd. There were lots of people, but not as many as on AAS, so she wasn't worried. She began singing "Don't call me baby" by Kreesha Turner, then totally began getting into the groove. As she finished, she somehow felt proud of herself. She bowed gracefully then ran backstage. Kali took a sip of her bottled water, and said to Kathleen, "Your turn!!"

Sammy was pumped up. That was a good performance from Kali. She absolutely loved seeing her on All American Singer.

Kathleen peeked behind the curtains as Kali sang. However, she was so scared, she could barely concentrate on listening to the great voice Kali had, and instead she worried about her own future. She'd never had stage fright before, and she was not able to comprehend why she was having it now. She'd performed on thousands of stages and in many competitions, talked on stage and in front of cameras hundreds of times. And she was now getting all anxious over this single performance on this small, little stage at this place? How was it happening?
Before she knew it, Kali had re entered the backstage area, done with her performance. Kathleen turned to her and smiled at her, her way of giving a good job without saying anything. And now, it was her turn to shine. It was her time to walk onto the stage and possibly stand out.
As she entered with her guitar, the audience grew slightly quiet, yet they continued most of their chatter as Kathleen approached the stool that had been placed out for her performance. She seated herself in the comforts of it, putting her mouth near the microphone. As she did this, she looked around for Ferdy in the crowd. No luck, unfortunately. But he had to show up eventually. He just had to. Especially for the final song.
"Hey, guys," Kathleen said into the microphone, "I'm Kathleen Pace, and some of you might have seen me on TV before. Well, I'm here to before three songs for yall, and I hope that you enjoy my performance! This first song is one that I really love it. It's one a sing a lot in the shower and all, and I hope I get you guys addicted to it as well. It's called 'I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker', originally by Sandi Thom."
And with that, Kathleen placed her sweaty hands on her guitar, causing the glimmer the instrument had before to be covered in a thick layer of sweat. Trying to concentrate hard Kathleen began her song.
"Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair In seventy-seven and sixty-nine revolution was in the air I was born too late into a world that doesn't care Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
When the head of state didn't play guitar Not everybody drove a car When music really mattered and when radio was king When accountants didn't have control And the media couldn't buy your soul And computers were still scary and we didn't know everything
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair In seventy-seven and sixty-nine revolution was in the air I was born too late into a world that doesn't care Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
When pop stars still remained a myth And ignorance could still be bliss And when god saved the queen she turned a whiter shade of pale My mom and dad were in their teens And anarchy was still a dream And the only way to stay in touch was a letter in the mail
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair In seventy-seven and sixty-nine revolution was in the air I was born too late into a world that doesn't care Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
When record shops were still on top And vinyl was all that they stocked And the super info highway was still drifting out in space Kids were wearing hand me downs And playing games meant kick arounds And footballers still had long hair and dirt across their face
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair In seventy-seven and sixty-nine revolution was in the air I was born too late into a world that doesn't care Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair I was born too late into a world that doesn't care Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair."

Sammy stood up and clapped and gave a standing ovation like everyone else did. That was awesome. She saw some nerves but she didn't care. She loved it. Hey, did that girl look familiar? Then Sammy started to have flashbacks of the weird french girl. Why did Kathleen's face remind her so much of the French girl?

Kali walked through the audience back to her seat. SShe then noticed Sammy. She decided to walk over. "Hey, recognize her, too? She looks so much like this girl I saw at the mall the other day.."

Andy walks into the karaoke bar. He has always loved karaoke, and sang a lot. Maybe I'll give it a shot tonight. The place is pretty packed, but everyone was having fun.
He spots a girl on the stage. She was pretty, and he thought he has seen her before. He moved up closer and noticed who it was. "That's Kathleen Pace!" He said to himself.
