Riley walked into the apartment, feeling kind of awkward. She was moving there because she needed support from an adult. But living in the same apartment as Chris... it was a dream come true. Even if she couldn't be with him... and least she could be around him, and that was enough for her.
Chris was really saving her butt on this one. Rori was really close to kicking her out, and she would have no place to go except for home to Syracuse. Even though it sounded reasonable, leaving Chris would be a nightmare for Riley. If only the baby was Chris's... they could get their own place and get married... things Riley had dreamed about for 2 years.

It was weird sharing the guest room with Riley. Chris didn't enjoy it very much. He had offered to sleep on the couch, but since there were two beds in the guest room, James felt there was no reason to do so, and so Chris accepted this, for he did not want to reveal exactly why he was uncomfortable being around Riley, although he knew that James should have seen the reason clearly. But Chris had to deal with sleeping in the same room with a girl he slightly regretted ever meeting in the first place. At least they wouldn't be in the same bed....hopefully.
Chris rolled into the guest room. He had a hard time getting through the doorway since he was still getting used to steering, but he eventually got through. Riley was already there, packing her bags. His eyes were focused on her tummy, which seemed bloated.
"So, hope everything's good for yah here," Chris said to her.

While Riley was unpacking her stuff she her stomach began to churn again.
"Ugh..." she audibly said.
She went to the bathroom as quickly as she could and threw up. When would it end?
After brushing her teeth, she returned to her unpacking.
"Yeah... I think this is the best thing I can do right now..." she said.
"Chris..." she said, staring into his eyes.
She forgot what she was going to say, but she felt that was all she needed to say. She figured he would understand.

Chris sighed as Riley randomly ran off to the bathroom. He didn't know what he had gotten himself into, dragging Riley more and more into his life, and he didn't know how well everything would really work out in the end. That first encounter at Starfolds, that first time when she was just some innocent fan girl all seemed to be deep into the waters of the past. And now, she was a sullen pregnant girl trying to get by, needing his help to cross the muddy waters of her life.
"Chris..." she said, staring into his eyes.
Chris didn't really know what to do at that moment, so instead a "It'll be fine" slipped its way out of his mouth and into the air.

Riley silently cried for the first time over her pregnancy. It felt like being in a stable enviroment made reality set in her mind. With her tears, the terrible memories of that rainy night came into her mind. The night that would change her life forever. The night Chris came into her life.
"Chris... when we kissed..." she said, but she couldn't get the words out. She wanted to ask if it meant anything to him but she couldn't.
She laid on the bed and buried her face in a pillow. Instead she told him something she didn't want to admit.
"I'm scared Chris..." she finally said.

When Riley brought up the kiss, he immediately felt uncomfortable being in her presence, even more than he already was. He was still embarrassed over what had happened on his first night in the city, and he didn't want to face it again. It was all because of his actions that probably motivated her into nearly killing herself, which in turn almost killed him. It was something that he did not want to deal with, nor did he want to face.
"Look, Riley....about the kiss," Chris started nervously as he stared up at her, "Again, I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong impression, but I just don't think it'll...you know....work out....."
He felt bad for her, there was no question about that, and when she buried her face in her pillow, sobbing and saying how scared she was, Chris felt awful. But it was the truth, and he did not want to do something that he honestly did not want to do.

"Why didn't you just let me kill myself? It would have saved you a whole damn lot of regret!" she said, tears pouring down her face.
Riley couldn't control her emotions. They were at a fever pitch, something that hadn't happened since that night. She felt alone again. Living here didn't change that.

Chris felt horrible. Here she was, a pregnant girl with very little hope, and he had crushed the very last piece of spirit and joy within her physical and emotional body. It was something that had to be said, and it wasn't as if this scene was never ever going to play out eventually. Yet Chris felt awful, but there was nothing he could do about it. He couldn't go over to her and comfort her, because she'd probably push him away or slap him. He couldn't pretend to love her, because what was said was said and he could never take it back. Life was confusing. It was a mess.
"Riley, I'm sorry...." Chris said softly as he stared at her worriedly from where he sat in his wheelchair. And that was all he did, for that was all he could think of doing.

Michelle watched the poor girl. She thought, if anything, she could at least help her get used to the place.
"Oh, honey, do you need any help? If you are going to be living here, I think I should help you out."
Michelle kneeled next to Riley.

"Well... there is one thing..." she said.
Riley looked up at her, her eyes red and her cheek.
"Can you have this baby for me?" she said, trying to get herself in a better mood.
Riley looked at Michelle. She was the image of beauty. It was strange, she looked almost exactly like Riley's mother.

"You mean, like a surrogate? Well, considering I've done it twice before, I think that would be alright..." Michelle thought she was crazy. She just felt so bad for this young teenager. What kind of jerk would leave her on the streets?

This made Riley laugh.
"I was kidding..." she said, in a lighter mood.
Riley went out of the room and beckoned Michelle to follow.
"Michelle... I love Chris... but he can't stand me..." she said.

Michelle put her arm around Riley's shoulders.
"Honey, it's alright. I know Chris. He is a really nice guy, and he gets in these moods sometimes. He will like you as a friend, and maybe that friendship will evolve into something more." Michelle knew she just met Riley, but she felt like Riley was her daughter.

"I can't go with maybe... I need my baby to have a father..." she said.
The tears came again. She was unsure if they were do to hormones or because she was so scared.

Michelle brought Riley into a hug. "Everything will turn out fine. Chris will care for your baby. You will be living here, so I could help you out. James will help you. I really wouldn't worry, because you have people here to help you."
